My opinion is different to yours

My opinion is different to yours

Your opinion is different to mine

Does that give you the right to belittle and ridicule me?

Does that give me the right to belittle and ridicule you?

No it doesn't!!!

I've witness lately some real attacks on people just for expressing a difference in opinion. It happens everywhere, online, at work, in homes, with friends.

We are allowed an opinion, we are allowed to disagree but we have no right to rip, drag and pick apart the person that doesn't agree with us or force them to agree with you.

If we all had the same the opinion this would be a very boring world instead. We’d all look the same, dress the same, have the same haircut, eat the same, talk the same – oh man that would be insane.

A friend of mine once got really angry with me because I wouldn't agree with him that horror movies are fantastic to watch and I should watch them. I told him that I'm glad he enjoys them but I just don’t like them. That drove him insane and he just wouldn't accept it, in the end I had to choose to leave the conversation and walk away because he was so angry with me.

Another friend of mine has attacked me over doing yoga as she doesn’t believe in it, it’s gotten to the stage that I don’t bring up yoga around her cause she gets so mad about it. Once again she’s allowed to not like yoga that’s fine, but there’s no need to attack me over it.

We need to stop attacking each other, each of us have our own life where we choose our own actions and have to live with the consequences of those choices. Yes if you know someone is doing something that could hurt them, tell them that but be respectful of their opinion and decision.

It can be good to have different opinion because you can learn a whole new perspective that you never knew about before.

So take the time to listen, you might learn something new or you might teach them something new.

Chocolate Chip & Almond Anzac Slice

Today in Australia and New Zealand we commemorate what's know as Anzac Day, the day we arrived on the shores of Gallipoli in World War I.

Today is extra special as it's been 100 year since that arrival that changed our nations history.

It's claimed that the Anzac Biscuit were sent by the wives of the soldiers to their husbands serving in the war because the ingredients do not spoil easily and the biscuits kept well during transportation on boats.

There are many different varieties of Anzac Biscuits out there now and I've always been fond of the Anzac Slice, as it's so soft and chewy. I've added a few extra ingredients to change it up a bit.

Chocolate Chip & Almond Anzac Slice

1 cup rolled oats
1 cup plain flour (sifted)
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup coconut
1/3 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup slivered almonds (or any nut you like)
125g butter
2 tablespoons golden syrup
1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda
2 tablespoons boiling water

Combine oats, flour, sugar, coconut, chocolate chips and almonds in a bowl.

Combine butter and golden syrup, stir over a gentle heat until melted.

Mix soda with boiling water, add to melted butter mixture and then stir into the dry ingredients.

Press into a slice tray that's lined with baking paper.

Cook in a preheated oven at 160 degrees C for about 15 - 20 mins until golden brown and cooked through.

Five simple ways to make cleaning fun – plus giveaway

Hands up everyone who loves cleaning?

Just as I thought, the only hand I can see is my husband MJ's who is the sheriff of the cleaning police. For the rest of us, it’s not a task we enjoy. Yes we want our houses to be clean and tidy but it’s not fun keeping them that way.

So how do we handle this cleaning routine and make it slightly more enjoyable? Even a smile on your face?

With the right attitude and tools, we can make cleaning a breeze and even a little dare I say it - fun.

1. Get some music pumping through the house – my favourite artist while cleaning is Nickelback, as they've got a heavy beat and it makes you clean faster.

2. Clean first thing in the morning – that way you’re done and dusted (ha ha) and you've got the         rest of the day to have more fun.

3. Dance while vacuuming - not only is it fun to do but others get a laugh out of watching you. It’s     also a bonus workout and if you wear a Fitbit (like I do) it’s extra steps and active minutes!!!

4. Have something fun ready to do for when you’re finished, that way you have something fun to       look forward to when the cleaning is over. Since we always do our big cleaning on a Saturday           morning I look forward to sitting down and watching an episode or two of ‘The Simpsons’ as             they play all morning on Fox 8 and they’re the good classic ones we can quote word for word.

5. Use the right tools.

Harpic has some great bathroom products to make cleaning the worst room of all – the bathroom – a little bit easier and quicker.

Harpic’s toilet wipes are flushable so when you’re finished (after only a minute or two of cleaning) they can just be flushed away.

So to make your bathroom cleaning quicker and easier Harpic has given me a bathroom pack to giveaway.

The pack includes:
  • Active Blue Flush Matic
  • White & Shine Flushable Toilet Wipes
  • Active Long Life Blue Freshener
  • Dual Action Blocks

To be in with a chance to win please leave me a comment below with a tip you know on how to make cleaning more fun.

Entires open to Australia and New Zealand only - competition closes Sunday 26th of April 2015.

Signature Style

Do you have a signature style? Is it black and white? Feminine? Masculine? Do you prefer t-shirts and shorts or blouses and skirts? I’ve been trying to work out recently do I have a signature style.

I’ve been participating in daily style challenges since March 2014 just over a year now and I’ve differently seen a change in style in me, I’ve grown, I’ve expanded but I haven’t really bought a whole new wardrobe, yes I’ve bought some new pieces but I’m still wearing clothes I’ve had for years.

I think my style is a bit eclectic. I like to chop and change depending on my mood but there does seem to be a bit of a theme throughout all my outfits and I think I would describe it as soft. Soft isn’t a bad think and it doesn’t mean weak, it means my personality is shining through soft and gentle with a touch of fun.

I love how clothes can be a form of creative expression and it’s differently one way of putting some creativity into the everyday. I always have a smile on my face when I put on the days outfit and it might be the only smile I'll have that day but it’s one smile regardless.

Do you have a signature style? Do you show your personality through what you wear? Do you participate in any daily style challenges? Please share with me your thoughts.

A Moment of Silence

Back in February I got sick with a virus and I ended up having to take a sick day; which a big thing for me as I hate taking days off work even more so because being a temp you don’t work you don’t get paid. But I was so dizzy that day I couldn't drive so I was ordered back to bed by my husband and then proceeded to spend the rest of the day in bed.

I'm not one that likes to be confined to the bed or the couch all day as I like to be doing things but I just couldn't do anything as I was so dizzy except lay in bed. This day of silence and stillness forced me to stop and made me realise that there were some emotions I wasn't dealing with. Emotions I was pushing aside and burying deep down hoping they wouldn't surface, well surface that day they did. They didn't just surface they exploded and poured out but you know what, it felt great to finally acknowledge them and express them and they weren't as scary as I thought they were going to be.

I have a bit of bad habit of pushing my emotions and feelings aside and burying them deep down only for them to come back to bite me another day. I don’t like sitting with my emotions and processing them, I want to get them over with and move on. I learnt a lesson that day, I need to sit and feel my emotions no matter what they are or how hard they feel, pushing them away doesn't take them away, and if anything it makes them stronger and harder down the track.

Emotions can be hard thing to deal with and they can seem scary and uncontrollable and we all like to have control, I know I certainly do like to have control over myself. But sometimes we need to let down those walls of control and realise we are only human and it's okay to feel.
