Style Me Monthly Roundup

We are at the end of another month and it's been a great month - we have moved in and sorted out our new place, I've had to get use to driving a new way to work, I started a yoga class to try and get back into some form of exercise. We've had birthdays and Mother's Day, entertained at our new place once, so much has been going on - it's also been a great Style Me month.

Style Me is run by Hilary Rushford of Dean Street Society who is amazing. It's a daily style challenge which has helped me look at my clothes differently and wear clothes with confidence and of course style.

So here are a few of my favourite outfits from this month.

Which one did you like the best?

Homelessness - You can help.

When you think of winter what comes to mind? I think of hot chocolate, hot soups, cold nights curled up on the couch with a blanket and crumpets or a toasty bed to crawl into.
But for more than 105,000 Australians (including 1000s of families) this is not what winter means for them. It means cold nights, frozen hands and no home.

Mission Australia for the past 26 years has helped these Australian's that are in desperate need by hosting the Annual Winter Sleepout. But they need our help to keep this event up and running.

But first who is Mission Australia?

Mission Australia is a Christian community service organisation that has helped Australian people back onto their feet and get back their independence for last 150 years.

They are a great organisation that helps people through early learning/youth services, family support, employment and skills development, affordable housing and homelessness initiatives (like the Winter Sleepout)

So how can you help?

There are many ways you can help out this winter - you could host an event (The Winter Sleepout runs from May 31st through to the end of August) or sponsor someone who is hosting an event or make a donation. Every little bit counts - even a $1 will help. If everyone in Australia gave just $1 they would get $23 million, that's amazing.

To find out more about this fantastic event check out the YouTube video below and then head over to the Mission Australia website to help make a difference in someone's life today.

This post is a collaboration with Mission Australia - I was contacted and asked to help raise awareness for homelessness. I decided to help promote this as I believe everyone should have a place to live and somewhere to feel safe.

Lounge Room update

Our new house is processing nicely, we are getting the house sorted out the way we like. It's lovely being able to make our own choices in furtinure and layout. The photo above is what the lounge room looked like before we moved in.

Moving day was fun, it was raining most of the morning so most things just got thrown in anyway there was a spot.

It was a bit hetic living with so much stuff everywhere you turned but we got stuck into it and have cleared up the place pretty well.

Here are the after shots, it was MJ's idea to put the red rug in the middle of room "to give it a pop of colour and contrast" (he's been watching too many design shows).

We even splashed out and bought a new coffee table. Lovely piece that ties in with the brown on the couch.

Li-ver (our little budgie) is happy with her new surroundings.

We are going to replace the blinds soon and hopefully get round to painting and re-carpeting later this year/early next year.

There will be some more before and after shots coming up in the future of our other rooms.

Zelda Cake from Nerdy Nummies

Friday was my brother-in-law's 25th birthday and he requested me to make a Zelda shield cake he saw on an awesome YouTube channel called Nerdy Nummies.

Zelda is a Nintendo game and the shield is what Link (the main character) uses in the game.

Now I've never made a cake like this before with so much fondant work but I was really excited for the challenge and so up for doing something creative instead of just unpacking and sorting our house out.

Since our oven isn't too crash hot (it cooks from the bottom up and the door doesn't close fully) I headed over to my mother's and baked the double batch of butter cake in her oven.

Once home, cooled and shape cut out, I got started on the crumb coat layer. While that was setting away in the fridge I mixed together my grey fondant, thankfully I already had blue, yellow and red pre-made so I didn't have to mix those colours up.

It wasn't that difficult to cake out all the little details just time consuming. I had printed out a picture of the shield and then traced off the details onto baking paper and cut them out.

I'm really impressed with the outcome, my brother-in-law was over the moon with it. He was really impressed with colours and said that it was extremely close to the original colours.

I had so much fun baking and making this cake, I look forward to do more cakes like this in the future, it's really given me confidence to step out of my comfort zone and give something different a try.

Cardmaking

May cardmaking was men's cards - it's nice to make men's cards for a change plus having so many guys on both sides of the family it does come in handy.

I really like the old fashion sport papers we used. I'll be using the red football one for MJ's 30th birthday this year as it reminds me of old fashion Liverpool FC.

Which one is your favourite?

No Internet Access

As you all know we have just recently moved home - we finally own our own place - yeah!!!! Since we've moved we've had to change over all the utilities which of course includes the Internet - we are waiting on connection which should have sometime in the next 2 weeks.

So in the meantime I've got very limited access to the net with only our mobiles and I've borrowed my parents Internet stick for a day or two. So there won't be any new blog posts until the net is up and running.

You'll still see me on FacebookTwitter and Instagraas I can access them through my phone.

So please stick around and you'll see more posts in about 2 weeks time - yeah!!!

One Sleep to Go!!!

One more sleep till moving day – yeah!!!! It’s finally arrived, as silly as it sounds it still doesn't feel real, even though settlement has happened, everything is packed, the new place is cleaned and even has some boxes already over there. I'm sure once we spend our first night in our very OWN place it will start to settle in.
Oh my, the stress that comes with moving house is amazing. I know I've experienced it a few times over the last 6 years (we are now up to 5 houses in 6 years) but this time its felt worst.  Poor MJ has been studying for this CPA exam (which was on Wednesday) so he’s been busy studying away for that as well as working full-time with a big work load. We've been sorting out all our possessions and throwing out or donating what doesn't serve us any more. I've been packing for the last month and I'm so over boxes. We've had to delay settlement, cancel painters, get in professional cleaners to clean up the mess left by the previous tenants, change electricity companies, change phone/Internet companies, move Foxtel, mail forwarding, talk to real estates, conveyancers, banks, lawyers, mortgage brokers, lenders – you name it.
BUT it will be worth all this stress, when we can call the shots of our own place – pick out colours (which we need to redo since we had to cancel the painters), maybe replace carpet, change the look around to suit our tastes and the best part design my craft/office room (yeah!!!!!)
So wish us luck this weekend with all our moving adventures, I'll see you soon with plenty of photos. Ahhhh I'm so excited!!!!
