Welcome 2014 Goodbye 2013

Well it's the new year again - 2014!!!!!

2013 was an interesting year. I learned many a new thing about myself, changed my whole food lifestyle, let go of some old baggage, got disheartened, got excited, got disappointed and let down, had health issue with my husband MJ and now need to change whole lifestyles. I will say one thing about 2013 - it was a year of unearthing, so I think 2014 will be a year of discovery.

Each new year that arrives I like to write myself a list of goals/resolutions/intentions whatever you call them for the year ahead. I like to have something to strive towards, to achieve, to focus on. But before I get into them I want to reflect back on my resolutions for 2013 and see if I achieved them (see post here).

2013 resolutions:

Focus more on my relationship with MJ and don't let life and people destroy it: Yes I did more this year but I still let life and others damage it more than it should have been. We attack each other sometimes instead of clinging to one another. This still needs more focus in 2014.

Be more creative. Continue my blog adventure: I did continue my blog which I'm proud of, I joined Twitter this year and got some new readers and followers (I've now also joined Instagram)

Prepare myself for being a mum: Yes I changed my eating and I’m differently healthier than I use to be and we have started trying (fingers crossed)

Continue to rely on God: I have but I’ve had my moments of downfall. It’s a lifelong journey.

Give myself permission to be me - forget about what others say: To a point but I’m not really sure who I am actually

Photograph more: No I’ve photographed less this year sadly

Learn to love myself: I have a little, I’m more comfortable in my skin than ever before but I still have a long way to go.

Love/Support MJ more: Yes but I’ve been too hard at points on him. I need to improve on this. I will always love him though.

Continue to work on fitness: Yes I’ve kept up with Zumba and have started doing Yoga in the mornings before work. I still would like to improve more though.

Floss more: No I sucked at this

So I don’t think I’ve done too badly with 2013 I have achieved and missed also but I moved forward.

So now drum roll please

2014 Resolutions
  • Continue focusing on my relationship with MJ and continue to love/support him
  • Work on my mental and physical health – learn to mediate.
  • Continue to rely on God
  • Try to discover who I am
  • Try to live a greener lifestyle
  • Continue on with and grow my blog
  • Embrace creativity in all forms
  • Spend more time with my niece and nephew (they are just so crazy and make life so wonderful)
  • Forgive
  • Let go of anger
  • Love more

I’m looking forward to heading into this New Year with a focus and just ready to surrender to life and live it. 2014 is going to be awesome.

What are your plans for this New Year? Are you excited?

A week of Christmas!!!!

Well Christmas is finally over in our household.  We had our 4th and final Christmas event on Saturday.
I love Christmas but after 5 events (including my birthday) in one week; you just want it over by the end of the week.
It was a great week, filled with family, yummy food, Skyping with my brother and of course presents. I got some lovely gifts this week. Money for new saucepans, gift voucher to my favourite cake decorating store, mad hatter topsy turvy 3 tier cake tin, vegan cookie book, teenage mutant ninja turtle socks, spa voucher (for a facial, hand/arm massage, nail file and paint), cookie cutter set (from my cute little niece and nephew), lovely glass patter and I'm still waiting on something small from my husband MJ as they didn't arrive in time from the post.
We had so much yummy food, I got to make this week our traditional yearly cookie tree, sweet and salty crunchy nut bar, my usual pasta salad (3 times for different events) and I tried out something very new – White Chocolate and Raspberry Trifle. It tasted so good, I wanted to try it out cause it had 3 elements I've never done before in it: Making jelly from scratch, ganache and mascarpone cream, plus I've never made a trifle before.  The recipe was so easy to follow – got to love Donna Hay recipes (online here). I've been told I'm might be requested to make it again someday.

Christmas Day was raining but that didn't stop us enjoying the day. Church was great in the morning, having all MJ’s family together was fantastic. Back at MJ’s aunty’s place, we played Apples to Apples and Simpsons Jeopardy. We also got to introduce Christmas to my brother-in-law’s girlfriend as they don’t celebrate Christmas in that part of China she is from.
My family Christmas on the 22nd and Boxing Day and the extended family on the 28th were spent in the pool with my niece and nephew. MJ taught my 4 year old nephew how to do flips into the pool and got to splash around with my almost 2 year old niece, while their mummy and daddy got to rest and relax.
I love catching up with family and seeing people you don’t see often and having a good ol laugh. Christmas can bring the best and worst out in people thankfully we only saw the good (except for one person but we won’t go there).
So another Christmas is over and a new year is only 2 sleeps away.

How did your Christmas go? Did some nice presents? Have a nice time with friends and family?

Why is there so much pressure on Christmas?

Why is there so much pressure on Christmas? Why do you have to have the right amount of gifts or food or decorations? Why do we have to show off everything to try and impress our family and friends?
I love Christmas but over the last few years it’s really starting to lose its shine.  Everyone seems to make it all about the presents, all about the food, all about the lights and decorations.
Christmas is so much more than that. It’s a time to celebrate Jesus coming to earth as our Saviour, the ultimate gift (hence why we give presents). Share the good news with friends and family together having a great time.
If you don’t believe in Jesus, Christmas is still so special too. It’s a time to spend with loved ones and enjoy time together and celebrate life.
We have seem to have lost the meaning of Christmas somewhere in all the money being spent trying to outdo each other in who has the better gift. I almost want to start a boycott on presents, so we can just celebrate not compete.
This Christmas, try and focus on the real meaning of Christmas, yes presents are nice but they aren't the ultimate goal. Celebrate life, Jesus, family and everything that’s good in the world this Christmas.

My 29th birthday

Today is my 29th birthday!!!!!! Yeah and what a great day it has been.

I invited my family and MJ's family over for a bbq lunch. It was nice and relaxing, even though it was a hot day mid 30s (thankfully a little breeze came through) we still enjoyed ourselves.

I wanted a rainbow theme, so there were rainbow cookies, rainbow fruit and the best part a rainbow layer birthday cake. Since it was so hot I had to keep it in the freezer as the buttercream just kept melting off it.

My mum surprised me with a butterfly pinata (as the lady at work ran out of time to make me one) and we had a great time whacking the heck out of it. I managed to decapitate it's head off.

Tonight I will be eating leftovers and watching Carols in the Domain with MJ and my big brother in England will be calling me soon too.

I love birthdays - they are always so much fun. Plus you get presents too. I was given money (to go towards a new set of saucepans), chocolates, champagne, a greenhouse, plant pots, potting mix, some vegs to plant, how to cards on planting vegs, teenage mutant ninja turtle t-shirt, sparrow necklace, an owl necklace, electric chocolate melting pot, my traditional birthday doll (mum get's me a beautiful doll every year) and lots and lots of cuddles and kisses from my niece and nephew (that was the best gift).

I'm heading into the last years of my 20s and it's going to be a great year I just know it.

What a surprise!!!!

What a surprise. I logged onto my blog this afternoon to find out that the lovely Travelling Macs had nominated me for a blogging award called "Dragon's Loyalty Award".

I hadn't heard of this award before, but what it is an encouragement award to followers of your blog that make visits and comments that encourage you to keep going on your blog journey also blogs that inspire you as well.

What you do is write 7 facts about yourself (see below) and then nominate 7 bloggers to pass the award onto (also see below). So I thought I would pass on the love and keep this award going around the blogosphere.

Fact 1. Growing up I was in love with Matthew Perry from the TV show Friends - oh my gosh I had so many pictures of him and everything. I even wanted to call one of my future kids Chandler.

Fact 2. I can't sing - at all - well I don't think I can - but I pretend I can and when I'm singing in the car or at home alone I pretend I'm on stage at a concert. Ha ha ha!!!!

Fact 3. I'm very tender/soft hearted and love romance, happy endings, cartoons, butterflies etc but I don't let on to many people as I've always been teased for it.

Fact 4. If I could be a mythical creature I would be a mermaid (but I don't think they are mythical really)

Fact 5. One of my favourite songs is "Walking on Sunshine" and if I hear it I'll dance around like an idiot.

Fact 6. Every year on my birthday I will wait until exactly 9:10am in the morning (cause that was the time I was born) and I'll run around the house yelling "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY, IT'S MY BIRTHDAY" and then I can start celebrating my birthday. Yes I never really grew up.

Fact 7. I love hugs, they are the best but no matter how good they are they aren't as good as a hug from my mum.

The blogs I would like to nominate and have enjoyed getting to know are:

Peppermint Bark

I love Christmas time, it's full of different recipes and treats that you don't have any other time of the year, there are also more no bake recipes too.

I follow a great blog called Retro Mummy and she posted a great little recipe for Peppermint bark (check it out here).

I decided to give it a go as a little Christmas present for some friends of mine. After somehow cooking the first batch of melted chocolate and having to reopen and remelt another packet. I was impressed, so were my friends (yeah - thankfully).

The recipe is so easy and you don't need an oven to make it either. So yummy and so simple - just the way I like it.

Reindeer Cupcakes

I made some yummy Reindeer Cupcakes the other day for a Christmas get together with some friends. They were meant to be Rudolph ones but I couldn't find jaffas anywhere.

They are so simple to make - chocolate cupcakes, chocolate butter cream, some pretzels for ears, writing gel for the facial features and a chocolate covered peanut for the nose. So simple and cute - plus very very yummy.

What Christmas baking have you been doing lately?

He won't be coming home tonight

This is a sad post, so if you don't want to be sad please stop reading now.

Today in Sydney there was a terrible car accident, one dead and many injured. The driver of the truck involved died at the scene. He won't be coming home tonight, he won't eat dinner with his family, he won't kiss his kids or wife goodnight or say "I love you" again. He's gone, no Christmas, no New Years, no birthdays or future trips. His journey is over, but his love ones is just starting.

It's tragic that life can end like that, in an instant, you don't know it's coming. Zac Young didn't know that day of surfing would be his last.

It really makes you think, what's important? what's my goal in life? do the ones I love know I love them?

Tonight I'll go to sleep praying for all those families affected by these tragic events this week and I'll make sure to tell my husband I love him and hold him that little bit tighter, cause we never know when the end will be.

So go and live life, take it, mould it, dance in it, experience it, love others, so when the end does arrive you know you did your best.
