High Tea

Last Saturday my local cake decorating group had a High Tea to raise funds for breast cancer and the Chris O'Brien Foundation. It was a lovely day, spent with some lovely ladies, eating yummy things and getting to see 3 demos as well.

There was a cupcake competition. I did enter but didn't win, although it was still a win as my cupcakes got auctioned off for $5 and that money went straight to charity - smiles. I was proud of my cupcakes and happy I gave it a go. Wow there was some stiff competition there.

My cupcakes

The demos were brilliant, flowers, cupcakes and cake pops. Brilliant ideas, so much talent out in there in the world.

Can't wait till the next meeting to find out how much was raised.

Everyone is different but it doesn’t make them bad

Did you know that everyone is different? That everyone likes different things?
If someone liked a different type of music to you would you hate them? Would you dislike someone if you liked pizza and they didn’t? Would you move to the other side of the room if someone said they liked green when you like blue?
The answer is no – you wouldn’t. You would respect their choice and move on; you would tolerate them even if you weren’t friends.
So why would you move to the other side of a bus cause because someone liked a different gender to you?
That’s what happened to my wonderful brother and his equally wonderful husband the other week. A man was sitting in front of them in a bus and moved to the other side because he didn’t want to sit near a gay person.
My brother and brother-in-law are people, they are not mutated nor do they spit fire, they are people, just like that guy. They breathe, eat, sleep, cry, love, laugh, bleed, feel just like that guy. The only different between them is that guy likes women romantically where they like men romantically. That doesn’t make them bad they just have a different taste for something than he does. They like strawberries and he likes pineapple – that’s all just a different taste for things in life, that doesn’t mean they deserve to be mistreated and rejected. Thankfully other people on the bus stood up and spoke back at the mean guy proving not everyone is like that and that some people don’t mind others liking different things to them.
This just doesn’t go for my brother’s situation so many people treat others disrespectfully cause of a slight difference: skin colour, gender, race, religion even if you are red head. I want everyone to know – Ultimately we all want the same thing from life to be loved and accepted. So please don’t treat others unfairly cause of a slight difference – they are human too just like you.

When the dog bites, when the bee stings....

When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling sad I simply remember my favourite things and then I don’t feel so bad.
It’s that time of the week, my weekly round of Month of Favourites. Please let me know your favourite things.
9. Cup
I’ve loving my Angry Birds Piggie mug at the moment. I got it from EB Games for only $8 – bargain

10. Room

Gone in 60 seconds – I’m not sure why I just find it a good movie plus I do have a little bit of a soft spot for Nicolas Cage.

14. Recipe
My good ol’ stand by chilli con carne is my favourite.
 1 tbs olive oil
1 onion, chopped,
3 cloves garlic, crushed
500g lean beef mince
2 tps chilli power
pinch of cayenne pepper
1 tbs oregano
400g can crushed tomoatoes
2 tbs tomato paste
1 tps soft brown sugar
1 tbs cider vinegar
420g can red kidney beans, rinsed
Heat the oil in a large heavy-based pan (I use my electric frypan). Add onion and garlic and stir over a medium heat for about 5 mins or until softened. Add mince and cook over a high heat until well browned. Add chilli power, cayenne and oregano. Still well and cook over a medium heat for about 3 - 5 minutes. Mix in the tomatoes, tomato paste and 1/2 cup of water. Leave the chilli to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the sugar, vinegar and beans, season with salt and pepper. Heat through for 5 minutes before serving - Enjoy!!!!
 15. TV Show
Revenge – I’m loving this show so much, the twists and turns you never know what is going to happen next. Can’t wait for season 3 to come onto Australian screen – whenever that’s happening.

Everyone has an opinion

Everyone has an option but it doesn't always mean it's right for that situation or should be shared. I don't mind if you disagree with me and think I'm wrong but don't stand there and judge me for my decisions based on only little bits of information.

Today I had a few ladies share with me their opinion on house buying - now I don't mind hearing advice or getting some tips etc but don't belittle me and tell me I'm never going to save while renting, I'm too old school in thinking and should get my father to use his house as collateral (which I will never do), I should move further out west (which would take poor MJ forever to get to work) and it's not that far from things (only over an hour to get to family, when it's only 10 minutes now) and on and on and on. No matter what I said I was knocked down. It's easy for them to say all that when you have been gifted a deposit or they already own their own places that were bought over 15 years ago when things were very different to nowadays.

We are doing what is right for our family and our situation, sorry it doesn't agree with yours but you're not the one living my life, so I will take your opinion on board and filter it my way - thank you very much.

Nan's 80th Birthday Party

Today was MJ's Nan's 80th birthday party. It was a lovely day, just the right temperature with a faint sweet breeze.

We had high tea at a pretty little house on a lovely block of ground. Nan requested it especially for the stunning views.

She got to catch up with family she hasn't seen in years. I've haven't seen Nan as happy as she was today in a long time.

I decorated her cake and made sure the top layer was gluten-free so she could eat her own cake. She loved how the cake turned out and I was impressed to as I was a bit worried about it but you always are with your own work.

Cheers to you Nan for getting to 80 and here's to many more birthdays to come. Love you.

Butternut and Macaroni Bake

I've been trying out new recipes that are either vegetarian or vegan, just for something different. I found this app on Itunes and downloaded it to my Ipad called "Whole Food Market Recipes" and it's full of really healthy dinners, snacks and desserts. I thought I'd try out the Butternut Squash (pumpkin) and Macaroni Casserole. I used rice macaroni instead of wheat macaroni and rice crumbs instead of bread crumbs to make it wheat free and it turned out so yummy, MJ went back for more which is sure sign it tastes good.
2 tbsp
olive oil
1 large
yellow onion, thinly sliced
butternut pumpkin (about 2 pounds), peeled, seeded and cut into 1-inch pieces
1 can (15 oz)
coconut milk
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp
chopped sage
3/4 lb
dried elbow macaroni (I used rice macaroni)
1/2 cup
chopped toasted walnuts
1/2 cup
bread crumbs (I used rice crumbs)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly oil a 9- x 13-inch casserole dish; set aside.

Heat oil in a medium pot over medium heat. Add onions and cook, stirring often, until softened, 5 to 7 minutes. Add squash, coconut milk, salt and pepper and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to medium low and simmer until squash is tender, about 20 minutes. Stir in sage and simmer 1 minute more. (This part can be made ahead, up to 1 day in advance.)

Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add macaroni and cook until tender but still firm, about 8 minutes. Rinse in cold water, drain well and transfer to a large bowl. Transfer squash mixture to bowl with macaroni. Add walnuts, salt and pepper and toss to combine. Transfer to prepared dish and top with bread crumbs. Bake until just golden brown and hot throughout, about 30 minutes.

Theses are a few of my favourite things!!!

Hi everyone, what a glorious month September has been so far, the weather has been amazing, sure signs of a lovely summer ahead.

I'm doing a weekly round up of the month of favourites, please let me know your favourite things.

Let's get started.

3. Flavour

My favourite flavour would have to be strawberry. I love strawberry flavoured things, fresh strawberries, chocolate dipped strawberries, strawberry milkshakes, strawberry Freddo Frogs, the limited edition strawberry Milky Ways they had out for a little bit. But at the moment I've really been enjoying blending a punnet of strawberries with 2 cups of almond milk for a yummy afternoon drink/snack. Oh my gosh it tastes awesome and only 2 ingredients.

4. Day

I love Saturdays cause work was over the day before and there is no work the next day. I find Saturdays cheery for that fact alone plus it's the day to sleep in or go out with friends or just play around the house. Saturdays are awesome.

5. Flower

I love love love love all flowers, they are so pretty and cheerful but I have a real soft spot for simple but sweet Gerbera. They look like they are just smiling at you and seem so happy to be themselves.

6. Book

I don't really have a favourite book so I'll share the book I'm reading (well actually listening to) now. I'm listening to The Hunger Games. I finished the first book yesterday and I'll be starting the second book tomorrow Catching Fire. I have found it quite an interesting read and it's very different to other types of books I've read and very unique in its own way. I'm going to hear all the books out first before watching the movies.

7. Place

My favourite place on earth is my imagination cause anything goes in there. No matter what is happening in the real world I can create a own little world inside my head and escape away for a little bit.

8. Magazine

I have blogged about this before but I love Nature and Health magazine, it's just so packed full of great health and natural living tips. I find it truly inspiring.

September Craft Camp

Over the weekend I got to spend a few days with a crazy bunch of women and my mum at craft camp. I love going, we have few each year and each one is funnier than the last.

This weekend the theme was Oriental. I dressed up as a Japanese pop culture girl for the Saturday night dinner, and we couldn't stop laughing all night at people costumes and antics.

It's wonderful to get to spend time with mum, she's more relaxed when she's not at home and having fun.

I got some more work done on my dolphin cross stitch and mum got her Christmas cards all ready.

Looking forward to the next one, which I hope I can make it to next year.
