A Month of Moments: Sorted

I was meant to post this last night but I ran out of time.

I have finally got my summer throw finished and sorted. Oh my gosh the road blocks I hit with this one.

I was all gun ho when I first started this summer throw. I sewed up the whole front part in one afternoon and thought yeah I’ll have this done by the next afternoon. Well I’m only just finishing it now after 3 and 1/2 weeks.

A Month of Moments: Hungry

This post comes with a warning – proceed at your own risk – you may feel hungry afterwards.

Yesterday we had a public holiday to celebrate the Australia Day long weekend. I’m all for an excuse to have a day off and get a long weekend out it. I had all of yesterday planned out and completed my list of to-dos except for one, I was just too tired to complete it.

I started my cooking day off with a request from MJ – Chocolate Mousse (one of his favourites).

I love this book "Sweet Old-fashioned Favourites" it's a Women's Weekly cook book - I’ve made this Chocolate Mousse a number of times now. It’s one of the best recipes.

A Month of Moments: Special

My niece and nephew always make me feel so special. They love spending time with me and I love spending time with them.

They just know how to make me feel love. The way they smile when they first spot me, the way my nephew runs into my arms for a big cuddle. It's just the most special feeling in the world. I love them to bits.

Our Weekend Away

MJ and I heading up to The Entrance (Long Jetty) for the a few days over this Australia Day long weekend. We headed up on Thursday to beat the traffic and came home yesterday once again to beat traffic. It was wonderful to get away for a couple of days together, we haven't been away since our big trip back in October 2010.

We had a blast, we laughed and joked around together, something we don't get to do very often. It was bliss to escape the stress of our lives in Sydney and it be just about the two of us for a change - no parents, no friends, no nothing, just us!!!!

A Month of Moments: Friendly

I had a friendly welcome home today by Mischa. Well it was friendly eventually after we were punished for going away by being ignored for a few hours and then she was all over me saying I missed you. How sweet.

A Month of Moments: Comfy

Having a comfy moment this Australia Day afternoon, I'm curled up on the couch reading a book! Ahhh bliss!!!!

A Month of Creative: Happy

Today I'm happy cause MJ and I have gone away for a few days up the coast. Our first trip away since 2010. It's awesome to be away just the 2 of us.

A Month of Moments: Clever

I was browsing in a bookstore the other week and came across the newest Cath Kidston book "Sew your own Rag Doll", I turned the book over and it was $45, just a little too much for our bank. So I hopped onto Ebay when I got home and found the same book for only $23 free postage from England.

Today the book arrived - Yeah!!!!

So I'm going to try and be clever and make my very own rag doll. The book comes with a pre-printed doll to sew up and stuff and the book shows you how to make 6 outfits for her too.

I'll show you the results when I'm done - I'm excited!!!!

A Month of Moments: Loved

Have you ever pretending something to your husband/partner/anyone just to not hurt their feelings?

I had to do that the other day.

MJ came home from work all happy and said I've bought you a present to cheer you up. It was a cake pop maker he found for $5, he goes "I remember you said you wanted to make these and I found this today for only $5 while I was at lunch - do you like it?". Well yes I do like it and I'm really happy that he remembered I wanted one, the slight problem I already bought a bigger one a few months back at a market for only $10. I didn't have the heart to tell him so I acted all surprised and happy and it made him smile.

So I felt loved that day that MJ bought me a present and I made him feel loved by not letting on that I already had one. So funny!!!!

Weekend of Moments

It's been a weekend of moments so I've decided to wrap them all up today in one post.

Saturday - A Month of Moments: Icy

I wasn't quite sure what to do for this one, so I've gone for Icing on the cake.

MJ and I went to his little cousin Gen's 1st Birthday/Naming Day celebration. It was such a wonderful time. Held at Clovelly Surf Club with a Seafood Buffet (oh my gosh great food). I've never to a Naming Day before and the little ceremony was quite nice with some wonderful words spoken. There was a great idea of a Wish Box. Everyone writes Gen a wish and seals into an envelope and on a major birthday in the future (say 18th or 21st) Gen will then open up all the wishes. Such a sweet idea.

The view

After the party was over MJ and I along with one of his cousins headed over to Moore Park to watch Sydney FC thrash Wellington Phoenix in the soccer 7 - 1. It was an awesome game, the atmosphere was alive. Towards the end of the game we headed down near the major supports section and waited for the team who come along and shake hands with all the fans after the game is over (and I got to be one of those fans - very exciting for me).

Sunday - A Month of Moments: Horizontal

Once again wasn't sure what to do for this one, so I've picked two.

Yesterday I hosted a card making party. We made some really pretty cards (some of which are horizontal) plus I got some good discounts from the sales, I got $56 worth of product for only $16.20 - bargain.

I tried to finish my summer throw yesterday but ended up horizontal on the floor in tears. I've hit road block after road block with this throw. Firstly I couldn't find any backing material big enough so I used fat quarters again but once they were all sewn up and ready to sew onto the front they were too small to be the backing material and I would have had to cut off so much of the front fabric which would make it look terrible. Well needless to say I was wee bit upset and burst into tears. I'll just have to go out looking for some new backing material and will end up with two summer throws now instead of one.

Monday - A Month of Moments: Fragrant

The smell of a peanut butter sandwich - the best. I treated myself this afternoon to a peanut butter sandwich and Milo drink. I don't eat wheat bread very often so it was a lovely treat to have.

Hope you all have a lovely week - what are you up to?

A Month of Moments: Delicious

Delicious that was what tonight dinner was - Delicious.

It was my brother's girlfriend's son's 16th birthday today so we all headed up to the local Chinese restaurant for dinner to celebrate.

It was fantastic, and the staff were excellent. They dealt well with two meals being - MSG free, gluten free, dairy free and soy free. It was so nice of them and they didn't worry about it one bit.

I shared with my sister-in-law the two special requirement meals, we had mango chicken and beef in oyster sauce. So good. I forgot to take a photo of the dishes but it was so hot today (44.4 degrees to be exact) and I was so overtired it was the last thing on my mind.

Here is there take away menu

A Month of Moments: Busy

Busy - we are all way too busy now days. So much going on, rushing from one thing to the next, like we are completing in some silent race hoping we come out on top. Most of the time we end up in a heap on the floor, exhausted and worn out and worse sick as!!!!

It was a busy today for me today but it did have nice moments.

Work from 7:30am - 12:30pm, then I did get to have lunch with MJ during his work break (which was lovely), then off to do grocery shopping, unpacking and putting it all way, picking up a parcel, getting a script and then off to Zumba (awesome workout tonight was).

We try to pack so much into our days, so tomorrow I am going to take some time out in the afternoon after helping babysit my niece in the morning and spending it crafting. It will be a nice few hours break before heading off for a family members birthday dinner (Chinese too) and an even crazier weekend.

How do you slow down? Or do you never?

A Month of Moments: Nostalgic

Nostalgic - I've always found that a funny word to say. I never use to understand what it meant, I thought it was a disease or sickness ("I'm feeling nostalgic today"). It's not a sickness, it's remembering times past and remembering good times.

I meet up with some friends tonight at Gloria Jeans and got to meet my friend's new baby girl Lydia. She was born on December 31th 2012 - New Year Eve baby. She's so cute and tiny.

Baby Lydia
She got me thinking about when I was little - man I'd love to be 4 again, where you showed your age on one hand, finger painted, played with Barbie dolls and cried in mummy's arms and no one looked at you like that was wrong they saw it as cute.

So I thought I'd post a picture of when I was a baby. I was around 1 or less than not really sure in this photo. I think I look pretty cute for a baby, some people might say what happened? Ha ha!!!

A Month of Moments: Quiet

I bought a new magazine today (I love magazines - way too much I think) something I've never bought before - EVER! So I'm going to need to find a quiet moment in which to read and absorb all the information inside.

Okay now don't get too excited - no I'm not yet. But this is the year, it's the year of big change. Exciting but oh so daunting.

A Month of Moments: Pretty

I love pretty things, they just make me smile and feel all cheerful.

I found on Facebook this wonderful site that sells the most prettiest clothes ever. It's call Vintage Grace. The things they make are just stunningly pretty.

Find them at

One example of their clothes for kids - how cute!

A Month of Moments - Late

I couldn't think of anything for this one.

So goodnight as it's getting LATE and I've got to go to bed, thanks to work tomorrow.

A Month of Moments: New

I got something very new this week, something I'm oh so excited about, something I've wanted for years and best of all it's pink too.

What did I get?

A new mixmaster!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!

I'm so sick of using my $30 cheapy that almost overheats, jumps all over the bench and spits all the ingredients to the side of the bowl.

The other week we took a trip to Bing Lee because MJ's Christmas present of a Digital Radio turned out to not be a digital radio and we needed our money back. Well while I was waiting for MJ to sort all that out I wandered off to research mixer prices and see if there were any good sales on with the Christmas sales. They had a Breville brand one for $340 marked down from about $550 so I looked up MJ's Iphone and checked out some reviews and they were pretty positive. The sales lady came over and I asked a few questions and she said there was only the display model left and she could take $9 off the price for me. I wasn't sure as there a few dents and scratches on the machine and $9 wasn't a great discount. So back onto the Iphone and the Bing Lee website had it up for $339 ($1 cheaper) and FREE postage. I opted for that instead and just had to wait till Tuesday this week to receive it.

It's so pretty and comes with 4 attachments including a scraper beater that scraps the ingredients off the side of the bowl (so I don't have to no more).

It's been really rewarding after having put little bits of money away for awhile now and finally getting a really good mixer, plus it now marks off item 64 (Buy a really good mixmaster) off my 101 list. Awesome!!!!

I'll be using it for the first time tomorrow when I make some Apple Crumble Muffins for our work week!!!

A Month of Moments: Early

Well, it's still very early in the year (only 11 days to be exact) and I've already lost focus of my goals. I've gotten distracted and have lacked motivation. I have things to do and want to complete yet I've let myself get distracted.

I'm very lucky to only work part-time but I haven't been using my time wisely enough, I've gotten preoccupied with a silly little Ipad game (so addictive) that's wasted hours - well not really wasted I did enjoy myself while playing it. So I'm not going to beat myself up over it but I'm sure going to kick myself up the butt and get back on track - no sitting down and playing games, yes sometimes as there is nothing wrong with playing games but when it's stopping me from doing other things I want to do then it's not good.

So here's to catching on early and stopping a bad habit continuing.

A Month of Moments: Wordy

I borrowed these books from my local library the other week and I'm slowly reading them to become more wordy!

Our Internet is almost a full limit so I'll be more wordy with my posts soon. New limit starts tomorrow - yeah. Also thank goodness for the IPad.

I'm over on Facebook so please come and pay me a visit. I'd love to see you there. If you have a page yourself leave me link so I can check your one out too.

A Month of Moments: Pattern

My favourite crochet pattern book - slight problem still need to learn to crochet.

I've never really been into Austen's books but the patterns in this book are enchanting. Well worth checking out.

A Month of Moments: Poignant

Poignant is a hard word to say and harder to work out.

So I'm posting a picture that is one of the poignant memories in my mind from our overseas trips back in 2010 - visiting the Colosseum in Rome.

A Month of Moments: Quick

Quick - My summer throw is coming together so quick I only started it yesterday afternoon and all I've got left to do is the backing and I'm done, so hopefully tomorrow after work I'll have completed it. I'll have to think of another project for the rest of the month now. Oh well more crafty to do then.

A Month of Moments: Distant

Today's moment is distant.

I saw Mischa just now sitting in the sunroom staring out the window wondering if she could get that bird high up in the tree.

So I captured today's moment in photo form - Mischa staring off into the distance.

A Month of Moments - Gathered

My moment for gathered is pretty much a clutch at straws today (I really couldn't think of anything or did I see anything gathered today) so I've gone with where do a lot of people gather???? The city, which is where MJ and I went today for a lovely day out on this over 35 degree day.

We got off the train at Central and walked out a different way to normal, and proceeded to explore parts of the city we hadn't walked before. Last year MJ went to a conference for work nearby Central station and found a comic book store and a game store. So we wanted to check those stores out, so if you are into comic books check out Kings Comics but if board games are more your thing then check out Games Paradise both in Pitt Street.

After that we wondered down to World Square. I found some bargains at Paper Scissors (2 tops for $10) and 50% off at Rebel (Puma top down to $15).

We had some lunch at Sushi Roll Bar, so yummy.

Then we checked out the Miracle Asian Supermarket where I found my favourite Choco-Pie (it's kinda similar to a Wagon Wheel). I love browsing this store as there is so much fascinating stuff to see and look at.

After a bit more looking around the city we headed to Hobby Co in the QVB building for some more paint supplies for MJ's models and then headed home.

It was a wonderful day had by all.

A Month of Moments: Cool

Well the weather wasn't exactly cool today up and over the 30 degree mark but we got to cool off at the beach (see get it cool off - ha ha - I know I'm sad).

Yeah I got to finally go to the beach this summer, was very happy indeed. It was wonderful to get to spend the summer day with MJ and ride out the waves, get crashed, get dragged around by the strong current and get sand all over you. There wasn't a cloud in the sky down at Stanwell Park today, just picture perfect.

We had a stop at Bald Hill lookout before heading to the beach, such a wonderful sight to see.

Bald Hill Lookout
Heading down the hill to the beach

There weren't too many people at the beach which was lovely, but by damn the sand was hot, it was such a trek down to the water from the car park and the sand felt like hot coals under our feet, thankfully the cold ocean water cooled us off.

We had lunch at a little cafe there, our burgers were wonderful - once they finally arrived after waiting 40 mins and to get a surprised of our burger and chips being burger and potato chips (why did that take 40 mins). Oh well, we walked down the road to get some gelato for dessert - oh my gosh so yummy - strawberry cream and mint choc chip.

We headed home at about 2pm and spent the afternoon watching the cricket. It was a wonderful way to spend a Friday.

What are your plans this weekend?

A Month of Moments - Sweet

Today had a few sweet moment intertwined into it.

In the early hours of the morning I woke from a bad dream and my sweet little kitty cuddled me back to sleep.

This afternoon I lounged on the recliner in the sunroom and enjoyed reading a book from the library entitled 'The Art of Fiction - A Guide For Writers and Readers' by Ayn Rand. It's a pretty good book, I've only read the first 2 chapters and I've already got 3 pages of notes. I borrowed some books from the local library to help me form sentences and words together properly and how to convey my message across.

But I did get to have a sweet holiday lounge around doing nothing moment today. We went over to MJ's parents place to catch up and just sat outside on the driveway with the cricket playing in the background just chatting and enjoying the sunshine. MJ said it was wonderful to just relax and not think about anything.

My sunny spot from the driveway

We are hoping for a few more relaxing days before MJ heads back to work on Monday. Tomorrow we are off to Stanwell Tops (on the NSW south coast) for a day in the sun and beach time (yeah!!!).

Have you all been enjoying some sun?

A Month of Moments - Sleepy

Today's moment is 'Sleepy'.

I've been very sleepy when it comes to my crafty side. I have lots of craft books and supplies and many great ideas but never seem to have the motivation or push to actually complete anything - I get tired (sleepy).

But 2013 is a new year and so a new more awake me is going to emerge from the shadows. I was so proud of myself for completing my nephew's Christmas present that it's inspired me to try and complete at least one or two projects a month this year. I thought two at the most was achievable.

The finished Race Car Track - he loved it.
My first project I've had in my collection for a long time now, many years ago on Meet Me At Mikes blog I found this pattern to make a summer throw. I've been wanting to make in since 2009 but have never got around to it, well January 2013 will be my month to finish it.

I'll work on it slowly over the month and track my process and then share with you all at the end of the month the finished project.

Looking forward the challenge - wish me luck.

Brand New - 2013 Resolutions

Happy New Year!!! It's officially 2013 now. Hope you all had a wonderful 2012 and here's to a greater 2013.

I love making New Year Resolutions, it's just a bit of fun, to look back over the past year and think what would I like to continue on in the new year and what would I like to change or achieve in the next year.

JustB Australia is running another Creative: A Month of again. This time A Month of Moments, today's prompt was Brand New. So I thought I'd use this post today to share with your my resolutions for 2013 for both myself and for this blog.

I'll start with last years 2012 resolutions, how did I go with them? Did I achieve or work towards them in any way?

- Distance myself from toxic relationships: Yes I did, it wasn't easy as I had to stop spending time with other people and lose out on time with MJ all on the account of one person and so in the process have lost some friends of many years, but I'm not exposing myself to the nastiness that I was having inflicted upon me on a weekly basis.

- Focus on my creative side more: I didn't really achieve this one until towards the end of the year due to all the moving and house problems, but I did start this blog and I was proud I created my nephew's Christmas present.

- Prepare my body/mind/soul for being a mum: No I didn't really get to do this in 2012 but will continue this one on into 2013.

- Create more time with MJ: Sadly no to this one, due to all the house mess, his sickness and his CPA studying but I can say we are closer after having gone through hell.

- Create a less stressful environment: Alas also no, thanks again to house dramas, sickness, nasty friends but I've been trying since moving to the new place in October and I've been handling it better with my therapist's help - I'd be lost without Suzie.

- Deepen my relationship with Christ: Yes, I have become more reliant on Him and have been praying more but it's a continuous life long process.

Ok then, I didn't do too bad with 2012 ones so here are 2013 resolutions

- Focus more on my relationship with MJ and don't let life and people destroy it.
- Be more creative. Continue my blog adventure.
- Prepare myself for being a mum.
- Continue to rely on God.
- Give myself permission to be me - forget about what others say.
- Photograph more.
- Learn to love myself.
- Love/Support MJ more.
- Continue to work on fitness (I did join Zumba last May and it's really made a difference)
- Floss more (I know I had to put one like that in there)

I've been part of the JustB blog school and the last lesson was entitled "New Blog Resolutions" so I thought great idea, what would I like to achieve and get out of my blog in 2013.

- Improve my writing (just how to structure words and paragraphs, how to get my ideas out of my head and into words. I can achieve this by practice and by short courses or books (which I have already borrowed some from the library)).

- Read other blogs and comment (I've have already started this and thanks to sites like Feedly I can organise all the blogs into one easy step).

- Broaden my horizons (think outside the box, blog about many different things)

- Online communities (search them out and get involved)

- Have fun and enjoy the process more. Be free.

I hope to achieve all the above and much more - wish me luck. Look forward to sharing my journey with you.
